Friday, May 10th 2024, a night I think a lot of people will never forget. For many, a bucket list item was checked when they least expected it. If you haven't heard, The aurora borealis was seen as far south as Florida and Texas!
Before we knew just what kind of show mother nature would be putting on for us that night, we had driven out to my mother-in-law's farm house in hopes of catching a small glimpse of the northern lights. At first, I was just happy to be able to catch the lights with a long exposure on my camera. I've never done any astrophotography so I was just happy I captured a little bit of color. Our kids saw the faint glow of green and purple but were getting sleepy and ready to go home. As we drove, it started to get bright out and we decided to pull over to see what was happening. The sight we saw...
nothing could have prepared me for the reality of witnessing the exploding colors directly above our heads, dancing across the sky.
Stay
I stood as still as I could, fearing if I moved the moment would be over too soon. I was overcome with emotion—a mixture of awe, wonder, and sheer disbelief. In that moment, I realized that we are all part of something much larger than ourselves, bound together by moments and experiences.
Reflect
Since that night, the memory of the northern lights has stayed with me, a constant source of inspiration and reflection. It serves as a reminder of the beauty and wonder that exist in the world around us, if only we take the time to look. I feel gratitude so many people around the world were able to see such an awe inspiring event under one sky.
Do
I hope the lights inspired you to seek out your own moments of wonder and awe. Whether it's witnessing the northern lights firsthand or simply taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world around you, embrace those experiences that remind you of the magic and mystery of existence. Please feel free to comment with the photos you captured of the aurora or the experience you had that night!
